Best Jeans for Petite Women: How to Get the Right Length Without Hemming

The short answer: The best jeans for petite women are ones made in a shorter inseam, so the leg is designed for your length instead of being chopped off at the hem. Measure your inseam from crotch to heel (crotch to ankle bone for skinny jeans) and compare it with the Petite length on the style's size chart. At FITJEANS, our Flared, Baggy and Contour styles come in Petite in selected colours, with petite inseams starting at 63 cm for Contour, 73 cm for Baggy and 74 cm for Flared.

Being petite and loving jeans can be a lot of work. Regular lengths pool around your shoes, flares drag on the ground, and baggy jeans stack up so much at the ankle that the whole shape gets lost. Hemming helps, but on a flare it can cut off the very part that makes the style.

The good news: you don't need to settle. Here's how to find jeans that fit your length and your waist, plus the measurements for our Petite range.

What makes jeans "petite"?

Petite jeans are cut with a shorter leg so the knee, the flare and the hem land in the right place on a shorter frame. Height is a helpful clue, but your inseam is what actually matters. Two people who are the same height can have very different leg lengths, so always measure.

Petite is about length, not size. You can be petite and wear anything from XXS to XL.

How do I measure my inseam for petite jeans?

You'll need a soft tape measure and, ideally, a friend.

  1. Stand straight, barefoot, feet slightly apart.
  2. Measure from the crotch down the inside of your leg.
    - For flared and baggy jeans, measure to your heel. These styles are designed to fall over the top of your shoes.
    - For skinny jeans like Contour, measure to your ankle bone.
  3. Compare with the Petite column on the size guide for the exact style.

Tip: if you have a pair you love the length of, lay it flat and measure the inside seam from crotch to hem. That number is gold.

Which FITJEANS styles come in Petite?

Petite lengths are available on our high waisted Flared, Baggy, Contour and Pastel Flared styles in selected colours. Check the length options on each product page, because not every colour comes in every length.

Here are the Petite inseams, next to Regular, so you can see the difference:

Size Flared Petite (crotch to heel) Flared Regular Baggy Petite (crotch to heel) Baggy Regular Contour Petite (crotch to ankle) Contour Regular
XXS 74 cm / 29.1" 81 cm / 31.9" 73 cm / 28.7" 78 cm / 30.7" 63 cm / 24.8" 70 cm / 27.5"
XS 75 cm / 29.5" 82 cm / 32.3" 74 cm / 29.1" 79 cm / 31.1" 64 cm / 25.2" 71 cm / 28"
S 76 cm / 29.9" 83 cm / 32.7" 75 cm / 29.5" 80 cm / 31.5" 65 cm / 25.6" 72 cm / 28.3"
M 77 cm / 30.3" 84 cm / 33" 76 cm / 29.9" 81 cm / 31.9" 66 cm / 26" 73 cm / 28.7"
L 78 cm / 30.7" 85 cm / 33.5" 77 cm / 30.3" 82 cm / 32.3" 67 cm / 26.4" 74 cm / 29.1"
XL 79 cm / 31.1" 86 cm / 33.9" 78 cm / 30.7" 83 cm / 32.7" 68 cm / 26.8" 75 cm / 29.5"

So Petite is about 7 cm shorter than Regular on Flared and Contour, and about 5 cm shorter on Baggy.

Styles like our low waisted flares, Bare, Raw Waist and Capri come in one length. Capris are a fun petite hack, by the way: they're meant to end above the ankle anyway, with an inseam of 44–49 cm (17.3–19.2") depending on size.

Which jeans styles suit petite women best?

There's no rule that petite women can't wear a certain fit. It's all about proportions:

  • High waisted flares: our top pick. A high rise makes your legs start higher, and a flare that just skims the floor in a little heel or platform trainer adds even more length. The key is a Petite inseam so the flare isn't dragging.
  • Contour (skinny): clean and easy to wear with anything. It's soft and lightly shaping, and its 2-way stretch works in width only, so it doesn't grow in length as you wear it. That makes it a great pick for shorter legs.
  • Baggy: yes, petites can wear baggy! Go Petite length so the hem breaks once on your shoe instead of stacking. Our Baggy is snug at the waist and relaxed through the leg, so you keep your shape.
  • Capri: a cropped length that's meant to show your ankles, so there's nothing to hem.

One thing to watch: our 360 jeans stretch 15–20% in length, which is why we usually suggest them for longer legs. If you're petite, Contour or a Petite Flared will likely give a cleaner hem.

How do I pick my waist size?

Length sorted, now the fun part. FITJEANS are sized by your waist:

  1. Measure the narrowest part of your waist, usually near your belly button.
  2. Match it to the size chart for your style. For Flared and Contour, S is a 65–70 cm (25.5–27.5") waist and M is 70–75 cm (27.5–29.5"). Baggy runs one step up, so S there is 70–75 cm.
  3. Don't worry about your hips for high and mid waisted styles. The denim has super stretch from the waist down, and the waistband is designed to sit a little snug so it doesn't slide down.
  4. Between sizes? Size up in black (stiffer fabric), size down in the lightest washes; Pastel differs — check the size guide or ask help@fitjeans.com.

What if I'm between Petite and Regular?

If your inseam falls between the two columns:

  • For flares, go Regular if you mostly wear heels or platforms, and Petite if you live in flat trainers.
  • For baggy, Regular gives more of a pooled, slouchy look, Petite a cleaner single break.
  • For skinny, a little extra length just scrunches at the ankle, which can look cute. Too short is harder to fix.

Still unsure? Send your waist and inseam to our customer service team and we'll recommend a size and length for you.

FAQ

Does FITJEANS have petite jeans?

Yes. Petite lengths are available on selected colours of our Flared, Baggy, Contour and Pastel Flared styles. Check the length option on each product page.

What inseam is petite at FITJEANS?

It depends on the style and size: Flared Petite is 74–79 cm (29.1–31.1"), Baggy Petite 73–78 cm (28.7–30.7") and Contour Petite 63–68 cm (24.8–26.8").

Can petite women wear flared jeans?

Absolutely. Choose a high rise and a petite inseam so the flare falls just over your shoe. It's one of the most leg-lengthening shapes there is.

Can petite women wear baggy jeans?

Yes. Pick a petite length so the fabric doesn't stack at your ankles, and keep the waist fitted to show your shape.

How do I measure my inseam?

Measure from your crotch down the inside of your leg to your heel for flares and baggy styles, or to your ankle bone for skinny jeans.

Are FITJEANS 360 jeans good for petite women?

360 jeans stretch 15–20% in length, so they're usually better for longer legs. Petite women often prefer Contour or a Petite Flared.
