No-Waistband Jeans Explained: Why Everyone's Talking About Bare Jeans

The short answer: No-waistband jeans are low rise flares designed with a clean, minimal waist — no chunky band sitting on your hips. FITJEANS Bare is a low waisted flared jean with that stripped-back look, flattering back pockets and super-stretch denim. You size Bare by your hip measurement, not your waist, and it is made to stay put without a waist gap.

If your For You page is full of low, clean denim with barely-there waists, you have seen the no-waistband moment. It looks simple. The fit questions are not. Here is what Bare actually is, how to size it, and how to wear it so it feels intentional — not unfinished.

What are no-waistband jeans?

"No waistband" does not mean the jeans have nothing holding them up. It means the waist finishes in a clean, minimal edge instead of a wide, belt-loop-heavy band. The silhouette is usually low and sleek.

FITJEANS Bare is our take: low waisted flared jeans with a clean, minimal silhouette and back pockets. They are real stretch denim with a shaping feel, not a rigid vintage pair you have to lie down to zip.

We also make Raw Waist flares — low waisted with a raw-edge waistband — if you want a related vibe with a bit more texture at the top.

How do Bare jeans fit?

Detail Bare
Rise Low waisted
Leg Flared
Size by Hip
Length One length (see Bare size guide)
Pockets Back pockets (clean front line)
Stretch 2-way stretch in width, super stretchy denim
Feel Modern everyday flare, minimal waist

Because they sit on the hips, Bare uses a different chart from high waisted Flared. Do not guess from your Flared letter size.

How do I size Bare jeans?

  1. Measure your hips where the jeans will sit.
  2. Match that number to the Bare chart.
  3. Check the length on the chart against your crotch-to-heel measurement.
Size Hip Length
XXS 65–75 cm / 25.5–29.5" 80 cm / 31.4"
XS 75–85 cm / 29.5–33.4" 81 cm / 31.8"
S 85–95 cm / 33.4–37.4" 82 cm / 32.2"
M 95–100 cm / 37.4–39.3" 83 cm / 32.6"
L 100–105 cm / 39.3–41.3" 84 cm / 33"
XL 105–110 cm / 41.3–43.3" 85 cm / 33.4"

Between sizes? Prefer a closer hip fit, stay true to the chart; prefer ease, size up. Black is stiffer — size up if you are on the border. Lightest washes tend to feel softer. Pastel rules are different if you are shopping pastel flares instead — check that guide or help@fitjeans.com.

Bare vs Flared Low vs Raw Waist

Bare Flared Low Raw Waist
Waist finish Clean, minimal / no-waistband look Classic low waistband Raw-edge waistband
Leg Flare Flare Flare
Size by Hip Hip Hip
Pockets Back pockets called out Classic low flare construction Back pockets called out
Mood Minimal, modern Everyday Y2K flare Textured low flare

All three live in low rise territory. If you want a high waisted snatched flare instead, go back to classic Flared.

How do I style no-waistband jeans?

  • Cropped tops and baby tees — the clean waist is the point; let it show.
  • Hip-sitting belts if you want hardware; many people wear Bare without one.
  • Platforms, heels or chunky trainers so the flare covers the shoe.
  • Fitted knits for night; oversized shirts only if you crop or knot them.
  • Avoid long tunics that hide the waistline you bought Bare for.

Care is the same as our other stretch denim: wash cold (max 30°C / 86°F), no fabric softener, no tumble dryer. See our denim care guide.

Who are Bare jeans for?

Anyone who likes a low, clean flare — not only one body type. Because Bare is sized by the hip and cut in stretch denim, it can work for curvier hips and even muscular legs when the hip size is right. If you need Petite or Tall lengths, Bare is currently one length; choose selected high waisted Flared colours for length options instead.

Our Straight Leg style is discontinued. Bare, Flared Low and classic Flared are the flared paths to shop; Baggy covers relaxed volume; Contour and 360 cover skinny.

FAQ

Do no-waistband jeans fall down?

They should not when sized by the hip. If Bare slides, the hip size is probably too big, or you are comparing it to a high rise fit.

Are Bare jeans the same as low rise jeans?

Bare is a type of low rise — specifically a minimal / no-waistband flared version. Not every low rise jean is no-waistband.

Do Bare jeans have front pockets?

Bare is designed with a clean front and flattering back pockets. If you need front pockets, look at Baggy or Baggy Low.

Can I wear Bare if I usually buy high waisted FITJEANS?

Yes, but re-measure. Use your hip number and the Bare chart — your high waisted letter size may not translate.

What colours does Bare come in?

Check the Bare collection for current colours (for example Black, White and Khaki have been part of the range). Availability changes.

Is Raw Waist the same as Bare?

No. Both are low flared styles sized by the hip, but Raw Waist has a raw-edge waistband while Bare is the clean no-waistband look.
