Best Jeans for Curvy Women: How 7 Denim Brands Approach Fit

The short answer: Curvy jeans usually solve the waist gap in one of two ways. Some brands use a curvy cut with extra room through the hip and thigh, like Levi's Curvy, Abercrombie Curve Love and Madewell Curvy. Others use stretch and a contoured or snug waistband, like Good American and FITJEANS. FITJEANS uses super-stretch denim sized by your waist alone, with Petite and Tall lengths. It suits curvy women in sizes XXS to XL who want a close, sculpted fit, while brands with extended size ranges or rigid curvy cuts may suit others better.

Let's be honest: there's no single "best" curvy jean for everyone. Curves come in different ratios, sizes and heights, and some of us love a rigid vintage feel while others want jeans that move like leggings. The useful question isn't "which brand is best?" but "which fit approach matches my body and my taste?"

So here's a fair comparison of how seven popular denim brands describe their fit philosophy. We've stuck to what each brand says about its own jeans on its own website (checked October 2026), and we've left out prices and size details that change often.

Why do curvy women need different jeans?

Most jeans are cut from a standard waist-to-hip ratio. If your hips, bum or thighs are fuller compared with your waist, you either get a waist gap (size for hips) or jeans that won't go past your thighs (size for waist). Curvy fits fix this ratio. They just go about it differently.

How do the big denim brands approach curvy fit?

Brand Curvy approach (as the brand describes it) Sizing logic Lengths Best if you…
FITJEANS Super-stretch denim plus a waistband designed to sit a little snug; made for "no waist gap, no squeezing" By waist only for high and mid rise styles; hip for low waisted styles Petite, Regular, Tall on many styles Want a close, sculpted, stretchy fit in XXS–XL
Levi's Curvy fits with a contoured waist and more room through the hips and thighs; 501 Curve has more room in the seat and thigh and a tailored hip-to-waist ratio Waist and hip, using their size chart Varies by style Love a heritage brand and a classic five-pocket look
Abercrombie & Fitch Curve Love fit with an extra 2" through the hip and thigh compared with their Classic Fit, waist unchanged Waist size, then Classic or Curve Love by hip Multiple inseam lengths Like rigid and vintage-feel denim with a curvy cut
Good American Fit-first design focused on a gap-proof waistband; Always Fits line uses high stretch to cover several sizes Extended size range Varies by style Need an extended size range or like a contoured waistband
Madewell Curvy fit with a contoured no-gap waistband, longer rise and extra hip and thigh room; suggests Curvy if your waist and hips differ by more than 10" Waist and hip difference Regular, Petite, Tall Want curvy fits in both stretch and rigid denim
Gina Tricot Wide range of fits; many styles in Petite and Tall; recommends the hip measurement for sizing, especially for non-stretch denim Hip (especially non-stretch) Regular, Petite, Tall Want trend-led fits with length options
Weekday Fits from slim to loose, many cut in rigid denim that holds its shape Waist, seat and inseam Several inseams Love structured, rigid, oversized looks

A quick note on fairness: every brand above has fans with curves, and fit is personal. Use this as a starting point, then check each brand's own size guide.

Curvy cut vs super stretch: what's the real difference?

A curvy cut builds the shape into the pattern. The jeans have more room at the hip and thigh relative to the waist. This works even in rigid denim, which many people love for its vintage look and structure. The catch is that your ratio has to match the pattern, and rigid denim won't flex if your body sits between two cuts.

Super stretch lets the fabric do the work. The waistband fits your waist, and the denim follows your hips, bum and thighs. That's the FITJEANS approach: our waistbands are designed to be a little snug so the jeans don't slide down, and from the waist down they have super stretch, so hip measurements usually don't matter for our high and mid waisted styles. The catch: you're choosing a close, body-hugging feel. If you want stiff, rigid denim, a curvy cut from a rigid-denim brand will suit you better.

Where does FITJEANS fit in?

We started in Oslo in 2018 with one mission: jeans that hug you in all the right places, with no waist gap and no squeezing. Here's what that means in practice:

  • Sizing by waist. Measure your waist at the narrowest point and match it to the chart. For our Flared and Skinny styles, that's XXS (55–60 cm / 21.5–23.5") to XL (80–85 cm / 31.5–33.5"). Our Baggy chart runs one step up, to 90 cm.
  • Length options. Many styles come in Petite, Regular and Tall, so you can get both the waist and the hem right.
  • Fits for every mood. High, mid and low waisted flares, Contour and 360 skinnies, Baggy, Capri and shorts.
  • Clean lines. Our fitted styles (Contour, Flared, 360) have no front pockets by design, for a smooth silhouette. Baggy and shorts have real front pockets.
  • Personal sizing help. Send us your waist and inseam and our customer service team will recommend a size.

And to be upfront: our size range is XXS to XL. If you need a larger size, a brand with an extended size range is the better match, and we'd rather you find jeans you love.

How do I choose the right curvy jeans for me?

Ask yourself these four questions:

  1. Do I want stretch or rigid? Stretch means comfort and a sculpted fit. Rigid means structure and a vintage feel.
  2. How big is my waist-to-hip difference? The bigger it is, the more you need either a dedicated curvy cut or a high-stretch jean sized by the waist.
  3. What's my inseam? Petite and tall women should look for brands with length options in their favourite fit.
  4. What size range do I need? Check that the brand's chart covers your measurements before you fall in love with a style.

What should I look for when I try on curvy jeans?

  • No gap at the back when you sit down.
  • No pulling lines across the hips or crotch.
  • Thighs feel close but you can squat, sit cross-legged and climb stairs.
  • The hem sits where the style is designed to: over the shoe for flares and baggy, at the ankle bone for skinnies.

FAQ

What are the best jeans for curvy women?

The best curvy jeans fit your waist without gaping and give enough room or stretch for your hips and thighs. Choose a curvy cut if you love rigid denim, or a super-stretch jean sized by the waist, like FITJEANS, if you want a sculpted fit.

What is the difference between FITJEANS and Abercrombie Curve Love?

Abercrombie describes Curve Love as an extra 2" through the hip and thigh compared with its Classic Fit. FITJEANS uses super-stretch denim sized by waist, so the stretch follows your hips instead of a fixed extra measurement.

Do curvy jeans have a longer rise?

Some brands, like Madewell, describe a longer rise on their curvy fits. FITJEANS uses high, mid and low waisted styles, and each style has its own fit.

Which jeans brand has no waist gap?

Several brands design against the waist gap, including FITJEANS, Levi's Curvy, Abercrombie Curve Love, Good American and Madewell Curvy. Which works best depends on your proportions and whether you prefer stretch or rigid denim.

What sizes does FITJEANS come in?

XXS to XL, with Petite, Regular and Tall lengths on many styles.

Is stretch or rigid denim better for curves?

Neither is better overall. Stretch follows your shape and makes sizing simpler. Rigid gives structure but needs a pattern that matches your waist-to-hip ratio.
